HOPE NEVER DIES

"We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope." – Martin Luther King Jr.  These words resonate deeply with the story I aim to tell.  This project, born from a simple social media video in September 2022, has become a profound journey into the lives of amputee footballers in Bangladesh. What began as a curiosity has transformed into a deep connection with individuals whose resilience and spirit have redefined my understanding of strength.

My initial encounter with these athletes, particularly Shipon , revealed a truth far more complex than the physical challenges they face.  Their true struggle lies in the pervasive societal neglect, discrimination, and rejection they endure.  Deeply ingrained cultural biases perpetuate a cycle of disrespect, ignorance, and exclusion, impacting every facet of their lives.

This project is not simply about documenting their sport; it’s about amplifying their voices.  It’s about exposing the systemic issues plaguing amputee football, from corruption within the system – including unfair player selection, inadequate resources, and withheld honorariums – to the lack of media attention that further marginalizes them.  These athletes often juggle multiple jobs to survive, their passion for the sport overshadowed by the daily struggle for recognition and necessities.

Beyond the field, these individuals face immense personal challenges.  They are denied employment opportunities based on unfounded fears and prejudices.  Relationships are strained and broken by societal disapproval.  Stories like Nabi  Alam's , driven to the brink of suicide by relentless bullying after losing a limb, are heartbreakingly common.  These are not isolated incidents; they are the lived experiences of a community too often ignored.

"Hope Never Dies" is a multimedia project designed to challenge these perceptions.  It is a testament to the unwavering spirit of these athletes, a celebration of their strength, and a call for societal change.  Through intimate portraits and compelling narratives, I aim to show the world that losing a limb does not mean the end of one's life, dreams, or potential.
